The Berlin Assignment: A Conversation with Mark Butterworth

Join us in our Library for a conversation with East Anglia author Mark Butterworth as he presents his latest novel, The Berlin Assignment. Featuring intrigue and plotting at the University Arms hotel and locations in Cambridge, this Cold War thriller set in the early 1950s tells the story of test pilot Adam Devon who finds himself unintentionally embroiled in the dangerous and violent game of M16’s work in the extraction of Soviet defectors. Facing betrayal and trapped in East Germany, how can Devon resolve the assignment and bring back himself and the defector safely? Unexpectedly his fiancée, Hannah, leads the assignment to its dramatic conclusion at the University Arms.

Before becoming a full time author, Mark Butterworth worked in the City of London in financial services for over 30 years, including as a risk consultant and Lloyd’s underwriter. Mark has travelled widely, in particular the Caribbean, the Far East, Australasia, United States and Europe. Mark enjoys reading, running, golf and salsa dancing. Mark has two grown up daughters and a Springer Spaniel called Arthur.
